Wassail Day - Saturday 19th January 2019
Wassail Day 2019 was brilliant. Beforehand we did have some worries with one side and Simon, our usual wonderful Master of Ceremonies, not able to join us but we needn't have had concerns. Dan stepped into the breach at short notice and did a sterling and engaging job. Plenty of people joined us at The Row to make noise, sing and 'Holler !' loudly. There was a great atmosphere, fab singing by our close friends The Kendal Revellers and Crook's dancing and playing was a joy.
With it being a dank and murky day all the activities back at The Hare & Hounds were held inside and with Westmorland Step & Garland Dancers clogging their hearts out, our mumming play on tip top form and more dancing and singing.
The pub was thranged and there were a large number of happy, generous and contented smiling faces all afternoon.
The fun continued well into the evening when bendy swords, some ceilidh dances and a lot more songs rounded of a fitting tribute to Judy the instigator and 'Keeper of the Wren' for all of the first 10 years of this tradition.
We're already looking forward to next year when Simon will be back with us and Michelle & Juliet will have taken up the reins.
