2018 Reports
Wassail Day - Saturday 13th January 2018
Crook Morris organised a Wassail of the Damson trees up at The Row in the Lyth Valley on 13 January 2018.
On a murky but mild winters day, lead by Master of Ceremonies, Simon Gillow, we were encouraged to whoop and hollar and bang and clatter to banish evil spirits! We made an offering, of bread dripped in damson beer, to the tree. The Revellers, a Kendal based singing group, sang a medly of traditional songs and we finished off with a dance or two at The Row.
This was just the start! We repaired to the Hare & Hounds where we were joined by Legs Leven and Westmorland Step & Garland Dancers for more dancing, more singing with The Revellers and other lyrical individuals, a mumming play, recitations, drinking and eating.
We stayed and entertained the assembled until late into the night. A jolly time was had by all.
